For over a hundred years, filmmakers who love scary movies
have been interested in Dracula. Dracula is a vampire made up by Bram Stoker.
Many actors, like Max Schreck, Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Frank Langella,
Gary Oldman, and even Nicolas Cage, have played Dracula in different ways.
Dracula is a character that can be shown in many different forms - sometimes
attractive and sometimes frightening.
But, a new movie called "The Last Voyage of the
Demeter" shows Dracula in a different way. This movie is based on a part
of Stoker's famous book from 1897. In this movie “The Last Voyage of the
Demeter”, Dracula is played by Javier Botet. He doesn't look like the Dracula
that can fit into human society. Instead, he looks like a wild creature, very
scary and not like a person at all. This Dracula is one of the scariest ones
ever shown in movies, but some people find him a bit boring too.
The director, Ovredal, is good at making these kinds of
movies. He's done other good ones like Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe,
and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. He's good at making the movie feel
spooky, and he makes it seem like we're really on the ship going through storms
and being attacked by vampires. But the story written by Schut, Jr. and
Zak Olkewicz isn't very interesting, and they can't make it exciting. This
movie's story is weak and lacks the funny jokes that could have kept us
entertained during the movie's violent scenes. The only exciting parts of the
movie are when Dracula's victims catch on fire in the sunlight, and those
scenes grab our attention.
The actor Botet, who plays Dracula, is also really good at
making scary movies. He's been in other movies like Mama, Slender Man, It, REC,
and more, where he used his unique tall and skinny body to look really scary.
In this movie, he wears special makeup that makes him look very frightening,
and sometimes they use computer effects to make him even scarier. But his
character, who acts like an angry animal, doesn't have a lot of personality. He
seems like a basic monster, almost like the ones in the Alien or Predator
movies. He does violent things, but he doesn't feel very powerful.
“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” had a very poor box office
performance both in the US and Canada. The movie was released on August 12,
2023 and grossed only $6.5 million in its opening weekend. It has since grossed
only $12 million worldwide against the production budget of $45 million. This
make it a box office disaster.
